Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum and certainly appreciate the great info available. From what I have read, the Idiot's Guide to the American Literature CLEP is the way to go. Does anyone have a book they know longer need? Also, any suggestions on writing a possible essay for the American Lit CLEP (still checking with my school on this one. I have been told I need to do an essay). Let me know. ![]() |

Can't help with that one, but have you looked at:
REA Online - Making The World Smarter (REA's CLEP book on this subject). I already passed my copy on to a friend, but as you will have seen in the specific exam forum for this CLEP, the REA book is really a good prep tool for this exam. Everything else you need is noted on the specific exam forum w/links to website sources for literary terms if you feel you need the extra prep. Have you tried your local library? I did borrow an AP prep book on English Lit and Composition and this one as a quick reference - it was a little extra practice as I was not comfortable with the subject matter. Amazon.com: Cracking the AP English Literature Exam, 2004-2005 Edition (College Test Prep): Princeton Review: Books Good luck!

Your best bet is your library. If you try to buy it (it's out of print) you'll spend a fortune. I got a deal on mine for I think $25, but I see them now and again for $50-$100. For that reason, I decided to hang onto mine and let my kids use it when the time comes. I love that book though, excellent tool.

I got mine through amazon used books for 3.95 plus a couple bucks shipping and handling. Its beat up but workable. You might try that route if your library doesnt have it. I have promised to loan mine to someone else already.

Have you tried Amazon?
Amazon.com: Used and New: The Complete Idiot's Guide to American Literature (The Complete Idiot's Guide) Amazon's used book sellers are a great resource. The only caveat is you're often dealing with individuals who are "book sellers", and they have lives-- thus it may take them a few days to ship. If you're in a hurry and can't find a seller in your state, be prepared to look elsewhere. eBay is also sometimes similarly handy. You may be able to search by ISBN as well. |

Hi I used the Idiot's guide to American Lit for the American Lit clep and found it very, very helpful.
I actually bought the an e-book version/downloadable version-goes into pdf/adobe- through the penguin publishing website. i'd definitely reccommend doing this because shipping can be so expensive and can cost you time wise as well. I know you already ordered the book, but for anyone else looking for Idiot's guides you may consider doing this... |
