I've never seen any complaints from California Coast students that graduated before CCU became DETC (NA) accredited. California's state accreditation also seems to hold some weight with employers.

Thanks for sharing this, Snazz. It does give perspective.
Why I am not suprised that you have training in Ministry; your kindness, support and sensitiviy speak volumes. Here's what I'm seriously looking at. An enrollement specialist called me today... http://musiceducation.bu.edu/ BU...wow! They want me...it's okay that my undergrad is not music; my credentials, reccomendations from work and plus the 10 grad credits in music, that I've applied toward my B.G.S apparently go a long way. I also have to submit a tape of me teaching, as well as take music theory placement test...and it's extremely expensive. We'll see. Now if my final exam grades from IU would just post, I would know it's all for real. I'm in limbo...eating cheetos and drinking wine to get through these pins and needles days! ![]() |

I say that specifically NA isn't better than RA because nearly everyone unfamiliar with acreditation will assume that national is better or the same as regional. Regional is still the standard - everyone will take RA. National is accepted alot of the time, but not always (my job for instance won't accept it)..... and theological/vocationals are rarely accepted outside of their field, though they might be far and away the best education for that field of study. It just depends on what your purpose for the degree is. If you just want a degree for the sake of having a degree, or to move onto a grad program, it seems by far the safest is to go after an RA degree...because that leaves open the most opportunities.

Thanks- I think what I am actually going to do is two fold-
IUPUI- MSMT program Master of Science in Music Techonology AND Certified Music Practicioner through MHTP I like the Master's program because it allows me a lot of freedom in choosing what I want to focus on, and I can include 12 electives/cognate courses from applied music and history of music. I can do it all on line, or combine online and in person. A Master's degree will bump my rank (and salary) up higher as well in my current job. Did finally get my raise and change of status after completing my bachelors- not rich, but feeling proud of myself. The MHTP certification is something that I really want to do for me- I've done some work like this, but not quite so intense, but I can see being able to do it. Thanks for the input on accreditation. BU is a good program, but narrow in its focus in terms of what I would be doing and pricey!
