I thought I had read somewhere that either CLEP or Dantes had age restrictions am I wrong? Did you graduate High School or GED?

I have an 18 year old son who may not be graduating HS next month, I was talking to him today about testing out of some exams. He is very bright got great marks on SAT, he just doesn't like doing homework and he hates getting up early. Would you recommend testing out over B & M? I feel that testing out of basic courses is fine, but at 18 you should be enjoying the college experience with other students your age.

    Lindagerr,

There is no age restriction on CLEP/DSST testing. The only requirement is that you have a state issued ID. In terms of graduating I will be graduating in a home school ceremony at the end of this month, but since I have already completed all of the requirements for a high school diploma in my state I have been accepted at TESC. In terms of your son, it sounds like he would be able to test out of a degree if he wanted to. For me it was the best choice for several reasons a) it was significantly cheaper than a B&M school (my degree will end up costing under ten thousand) b) since I have been home shooled since Kindergarten I am used to self study. If you are concerned about him "missing the college experience" he could always take some classes at your local community college. I was smiling when I read the part about homework and sleeping late. I absolutely despise homework and am not a morning person! That's another great thing about testing is that you can study anwhere, anytime, and virtually anyway you want.

I'm 37 and started working on my degree last June. To date, I have earned 45 credits and have 3 currently in progress and I'm studying for another DSST.

I will have my ASBA from TESC complete before the end of this year and will begin work immediately on my BSBA. My goal was to have my BSBA by the time I was 40 and I think I should be able to do that with no problem!

Not confessing since you made it a public poll....call me OLD fashioned...! Where I grew up a lady never confesses her age after 25!

That said, I started with 1 class 25 years ago, did 1 more, and then life interfered. Restarted in 2005 from scratch. Trying to finish this year!

It's weird knucyt, but I also had you pictured as a guy in my mind. I think it is your name...funny how we place gender perceptions based on random user names...

AS from Rasmussen (RA) I graduate in December
Then I ship off to OCS and training for Surgical Spialist. I will be gone a while.

After that I begin the process of obtaining a BS Chem geared toward Pre-Pharmacy. I have taken a few fema, a few clep, 1 dsst, and 2 LSU classes. I am enrolled into excelsiors credit bank. I dont like all these transcripts. Upon entering OCS I will have two AS degrees and halfway to a BA Liberal Arts no major. I just started looking at everything and relized I can finish that the fastest through distance education. I want to go to B&M for my BS Chem because there are a lot of lab classes I have to do.

Though if I realy push I might be able to have enough credits for the BA when I ship off. Anyway I think I am doing good for a 20year old who took 2 years off of high school.

From reading, many of you are doing good too. INWE, you should be very proud of what you have accomplished at such a young age. As should everyone on this forum.

OCS with out a bachelors? are you going army or national guard or coast guard? Sounds exciting either way. Try to have fun because either way it is going to suck.

    Default 38

I am 38 years old and I started with 12 credits from the NYC Fire Academy, 2 NFA credits, 30 credits via CLEP, and 33 credits via DSST. I only wound up using 2 credits from the Fire Academy credits that I received, the rest were from DSST and CLEP. I guess I'll be using the rest of my credits for my BS degree. Oh yeah, I just became a father (11 week old daughter) for the first time and it feels great. I guess I start everything late huh. Oh well better late than never.

    Thumbs up

It's interesting to see all of the different age brackets of people who have taken the CLEP test. I took my first CLEP at the age of 15 and I am currently 17.

Well they base it on college credits. You need 60 credits to get it. 90 for accelerated OCS. My AS gives me 60. The penn foster has some overlapping but increases it. Them with my exams they assesed me at 80ish. But a lot of the test dont count towards the degree I want. But oh well. It is still credits

    Also the national guard.

    I'm going to be 20 in july, I have 90+ s.h.

I also have a full-time (decent paying) job as a CTO of a small business, so I'm young, earning money, getting educated, and having fun doing it all!! (My parents are so jealous )
