One experience I had that I never hear mentioned in these conversations is ice-skating. Not professional or free-skates--but ice-skating lessons. My wife and I took group lessons about 12 years ago and, since she was a better skater than I was, she got bumped up to the advanced group, which left me with one other guy and about ten girls. Being happily married, the experience actually made me more nervous than anything else, but I kept thinking to myself that if I were single--this would be great. In addition to the great ratio--girls learning to ice-skate frequently fall, and they usually try to grab whoever is closest on their way down!

It really was a lot of fun.

April - I am so glad you made an appearance in this post! I've been laughing pretty hard these past few days (in a nice way) reading this post, not sure if (as a woman) I should try and respond with how we really feel about some of those p/u lines...!

Dancing - you are so right!! Listen up guys - I am TELLING you to listen to April and Cinderly and Barcotta - I have a number of girl friends who swing dance in the VA/MD/DC Metro area and it is EXACTLY as April describes - never enough guys! My husband and I go ballroom dancing about twice a month and it's a hoot cos he has two left feet...but I don't care because we have a lot of fun. There's no judgement, just appreciation that he tries and we spend time having fun together!

Barcotta - what another great idea!

I'm sure you have all realized the moral of this story!

Go have fun and forget the p/u lines!

    Default Best one ever

Want to go to my place and have sex?

Guys, If you don't want to waste your time with dancing lessons, just get to the point with one question. It has been proven that 1 out of 5 women will say yes. Obviously, you want to ask this question in clubs, bars, etc. in places where you know women are there to pickup guys also. Just ask about 6 or 7 women per night, and you will get lucky. Women will be expecting pickup lines, so many of them would just love for you to get to the point. Of course, only do this if you are not looking for a relationship.

Ok I'm gonna help you out here Clep101 - cos' on the crassness scale you look like you could use some pointers!

So....go here for an intelligent study on the topic of what we call "pick-up lines" and the UK calls "Chat-up lines":

PsyBlog: The Hidden Purpose of Chat-up Lines

    but to quote:

"The results for men's perceptions showed that in comparison to women, men were more likely to prefer chat-up lines involving sex (surprise surprise!) as opposed to women who preferred humour. Men also tended to be worse than women at judging what types of chat-up lines women prefer. The types of chat-up lines whose effectiveness was under-estimated by men were those involving offers of help to women, handing control of the interaction to women and (subtly) displaying wealth (surprise surprise!)."

No, I don't need to know if you score.
