Default Peterson Math

Anyone do the practice tests on Petersons revised site?
I read on this forum that the Peterson questions were more challenging than the actual Clep test questions. Is this still the case?

From what I understand, the exams remain in their previous "more challenging" levels. Good Luck!!

I can field this one for you. I took all of the practice tests when I was studying for the 6 credit College Math CLEP. I did these in conjunction with IC. The Peterson tests were MUCH harder and more indepth than the actual test; at least the version I took anyway. There were many word problems dealing with statistics and probablility. As several other threads have stated, know your prime and real numbers, mean/median, decimal to fraction conversion (and vice-versa), know how to /*-+ fractions. I was amazed at how much I overstudied for the test, meaning there was very little Trig or Algerbra. I received a 58 but it simply counted as a Pass with no grade assigned. Of course my input comes with the common IC forum disclaimer that this was just the version I took, there may be other more diabolical versions out there. I would reccomend to overstudy for this one, with 6 credits at stake, it will be time well spent. Good luck and let us know how it went. Lee

Thank you for the input. I am doing my best to overstudy. I will not be able to take the Clep math until the middle of Sept because the test sites around me are jammed up with testing incoming students now. So hopefully I will be ready to go for it by then. I have taken some practice tests from various sources and my scores are all over the place. I am up then I'm down . The logs really get to me. Were they on the Clep? I also still have to learn how to determine if a linear equation is a parabola, circle or whatever. Then some of those word problems that talk about thing like 10 women, 7 of whom like a movie and 9 men, 3 of whom like the movie and what is the ratio or whatever of men, or women or both that like the movie, blah, blah, blah... Should I get myself worked up over this kind of problem?

This may turn out to be a good thing insofar as you will be given ample time to study, prepare, and build up all of your math skills giving you a greater ability to PASS - GOOD LUCK!!

Default petersons

I didn't use the Petersons online, but I did use their book, both the study material and the sample exams. Their sample exams are IMO much MUCH more difficult than the actual exam. I posted my thoughts about this exam in another thread called College Math --Don't Sweat it -- or something like that, in much more detail, please take a look,
My overall take is that all of the topics in the overview are covered, making this kind of a broad test, but they're really lightweight examples, making it not very deep, and IMO an easy test if you have a decent grasp of the principles.

I have looked over your previous "don't stress over it" post today and I have referred to it in the past to make sure that I am studying the right things. All of those things that you listed are things that I have mostly under my belt at this point. I will keep syudying though, especially since my test isn't for a while and I certainly don't want to get foggy on anything in the meantime.
