Default Psychology of Adulthood and Aging is UP

We've added materials for the Excelsior College Exam named Psychology of Adulthood and Aging. This should count for upper-level credit at most colelges that award credit for ECEs

Since this is one fo the first Excelsior exams we've made materials specifically for, we're anxious to hear your feedback, so please keep us posted on your results!

Next Up should be Gerontology ECE

    Good luck....

    Default Hallelujah!

After spending several hours today trying to find an affordable textbook for this course, I decided to look and see if anyone had books to sell.

Hit "New Posts" and up this came.

All I can say is Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!! You made my day.

Nice! Make sure you feel properly prepared. I feel like this is one of our most thorough efforts yet, so I'm really optimistic about the materials, but since it's our first real attempt at tackling an ECE, no one knows how well things will go.

Hi sgloer. I took Excelsior's Adulthood and Aging exam today. I only read the summaries at the end of each chapter of the book Excelsior recommended. I drilled on the questions on this site for about a week until I knew them inside out. 150 questions on the acutal test. Very little matched exactly, but were close enough that you could reason/think through them. Did get an "A." Thanks.

Nice! Thanks for the feedback Shaw; I've been anxious to hear how people do on this exam, since we'll be following the same approach with Gerontology (which is in development even as we speak)

Took this exam on Saturday. 150 questions on all aspects of aging. I found InstantCert to be a good start. I used Cavanaugh's book 3rd edition (Excelsior recommends 5th edition) and did the review questions in each chapter as well as the practice and final quizzes on the student companion site (same thread-earlier post.)

Here's what you need to know: definitions of death:brain, cortical, clinical, physic and social. Know when and how they are used.

Personality styles- I was weak on this. Review all the theories: Five factor model, Neugarten, Erikson, Jung, Loevinger (ego theory), possible selves etc.

Several questions on Elderhostel (wasn't in any of the literature, but showed up in FOG too.)

Differentiate Alzheimer's from other dementias, and delirium from dementia.

Research methods and when and how they are use-time lag, sequential etc.

Different types of aging-primary, secondary, tertiary, normal, abnormal etc.

Few questions on jobs, careers and satisfaction.

Know how long European American live vs. African etc.

    US population curve

Know the different ways that age is determined and theories of aging.

Lots of questions on memory and intelligence and testing for each.

Not much on death and dying. A few questions on normal and abnormal grief.

My best score was on Mental Health and Psychopathology, because I took Abnormal Psychology first, highly recommended.

I understand Gerontology is a good class to follow-up due to extensive overlap.

Took this one today. I felt pretty prepared compared to other tests I have taken. Unfortunately, I have to wait for results since this was the paper version. Since these are free for me, I took Gerontology too. Both tests were easier then I thought. I had material that IC covered for Adult/Aging that was covered on Gerontology. Most questions can be answered by common sense if they were not covered by IC. You should take both within a week.
