Default Excelsior Bachelor of Science in General Business

I've looked over the requirements for Excelsior's Bachelor of Science in General Business and on of them actually gives me some concern...its in reguard to the english requirement. I seem to recall that Excelsior will not accept any form of Exam Credit other than its own ECE exam. Is this true? Is there no other way to satasfy the requirement? Any help is greatly valued.

As far as I know, the only exams they accept are ECE English Composition (6L) or College Writing (3L). The CLEP English Composition and Freshman College Composition DO NOT meet requirements for the Written English component.

An alternative may be taking a brick-and-mortar course at, say, a local community college.

Excelsior will also accept TECEP English Comp I (from Thomas Edison):

    http://www.tesc.edu/students/tecep/teceplist.php

One potential benefit of taking this exam, is that it is pass/fail. So if English is not your thing, or you are concerned that taking one of the ECE exams will harm your GPA, this TECEP might be the way to go.

I have read feedback from a few different people who have taken this exam, and they all felt that it was a very simple and straightforward exam to pass.

The downside to this exam is that it costs $450.00, and you have to find your own proctor. Also, you have to register a month in advance, and they take FOREVER to get your score to you.

    It's an option though.

Chances are, you will have to take a couple of TECEPs anyway, in order to fulfill all the requirements for your Business degree (Eg, Business Policy, and Operations Management). So, you could just as easily take three as two.

    Hope this helps,

I satisfied my English requirement from LSU - Independent Study.

    Default Thanks

Thankyou for such quick replies! I am afraid that I quite missed the bus on the ECE, as I can not schedule it until Feburary 2007.

I may not be able to look into actually taking class at a B&M college, because of the amount of time I have committed to my profession ( I barely have the time to study for these exams).

I did look into the TECEPs, but, I honestly wanted to do as few of those as possible, but never actually even considered them...if its 2 or 3, it really doesn't matter (til it hits my checking account )

That independent study program fascinates me. I'll look into it.

As I recall, the course consisted of 15 lessons and 2 exams. Every other lesson was an essay (500 words) and the other lessons were on different writing styles and such. The course ran $229.00 (plus books) and you were given 9 months to complete.

All in all it was an available option (as EC doesn't accept the CLEP) and somewhat easy to complete. The link has all the information.

    GOOD LUCK!!

Quite simple really. At my Base Education Center, there is a fact sheet that details the specific times +/- 2 days that an ECE exam with an * can be taken. All ECE exams must be ordered a month in advance.

ECE English is one of the * Exams. And the Specified Dates that they can be adminstered is on: 3 Feb 06, 7 Apr 06, 2 Jun 06, and 4 Aug 06.

We're passed all these dates so they informed me that the cycle would start again next year.

Being impatient as I am, I look to a more timely alternative.
(This is Why LSU looks so attractive to me)

I see... Thank you! Your Post, along with the LSU discription makes a very attractive Course. This is a route that I will seriously consider.
