Default Online Practice Tests are not good

I am doing the Alcohol abuse practice tests on this site. they are ridiculous.

The fill in the blank sections ask you to fill in a part of the sentence that has NO RELEVANCE to learning the material. The most inane parts of the sentence are chosen to fill in.

    Fill in this sentence..

    "Alcohol ___ bad".

    The missing word, is "is".

What is going on? Does a computer reandomly select different parts of the sentence? I cannot believe a human would make up these questions. I missed answers because I did not make the word plural.

Is this how the test actually works, where we fill in the blanks, or is it multiple choice. Instacert cannot be serious with these practice tests. They are somewhat worthless in their current form.

Default Ok, I figured out the problem

I will assume by other posts that you need to read explanations of the answers. I still say the fill in the blank stuff is not worthwhile.

    Thanks

The flashcards are not supposed to be perfect. They expose you to information you need to focus on to pass the test. Reading the material in the question and explanation is the only value of it. I never try to even answer it even when I know the answer, I just click it so the explanation comes up. It's like studying a book, but in a different format.

These are not typical test questions per se but rather flashcards designed to augment the 5-R's (see below).

If you want to take a "typical" practice test try REA or Petersons.

BTW: THOUSANDS of students have used the IC flashcards with great success - I earned two of three degrees this way.

    flowjoe,
Calm down, I was thinking the same thing when I started. It's all about reading the entire question and explanation. I guess the questions are made that way for information retention. As long as you know the info in the explanation part of the question, you will pass your tests. I will say though, that I have not failed a single CLEP or DSST since joining and studying from IC. When I took Drug and Alcohol Abuse, I only went over the flashcards once and barely passed. But as they say, "A Pass Is A Pass". Good luck on your exams.

    Default Calming down

All right, now that I can see what the point of the flash cards are, I suppose I can deal with it. I just got mad, with all the fill in the blanks that I was getting wrong because I did not add an "s" onto the word, or I misspelled it or something.

I will have some faith and keep studying. I am doing the substance abuse, English Comp w/ Essay (CLEP) and MAYBE the Intro Algebra test from DSST. Even though I never passed much math in HS.
I am going through ALEKS right now, and re-learning simple things, and if I can learn math that way, I MAY take this DSST for Algebra. I know NOTHING about math, but if I can learn a concept, I think I could do it now. In HS, I did not give a damn about math. Now, I have to have it for my Bachelor in Nursing. I am waiting to see if TESC will accept the DSST exam for my math requirement. I am also gambling that this will be an easier test to take than the CLEP liberal arts math..

    Thanks for the input

    Flowjoe
