    Default Calling TESC students!

Has anyone fulfilled the Business Policy and/or Business in Society/International Business requirements for a BSBA?

I need both and plan to do the take TECEPs. Have any of you done these exams yet? What's the best way to prepare? Also, is there any CLEP which would satisfy either of these? (Its cheaper!)

Thanks, in advance, for any help you can give me.

I looked long and hard at the TESC BSBA/CIS for a 2nd bachelors degree. From everything I've read, no CLEP/DANTES can satisfy Business Policy. From my notes, this course costs $435 through TESC, and includes a proctored mid-term and unproctored online final.

Fort Hayes State University offers Business Policy and Business in Society courses as part of their BBA and a previously-offered undergrad Management certificate, which can be earned online. I wrote FHSU about taking those courses via distance learning. The cost per course is approximately $400 + books. According to the counselor, all prerequisites (ACCT 203, ACCT 204, ECFI 201, ECFI 202, MKT 301, MGT 301, GBUS 204, ECFI 305, and CIS 101 or CSCI 163) must be met before enrolling in Business Policy, as it is the capstone course. I could be wrong, but possibly all of the prerequisites might be satisfied through DANTES/CLEP examinations.

Park University lists Business Policy courses that can be completed online. The costs are $242/semester hour. 'Tis expensive. Although I've looked at Park U because a campus is located in my area, I haven't researched any prerequisites yet as I may just go ahead with a masters program.

Finally, if I'm not mistaken, Excelsior also offers Business Policy, both as a course and an exam. Lawrie Miller, best known for "BA in 4 Weeks", discusses the Business Policy ECE at this page on his web site.

    Hi justintime,

    Just a slight correction...

Excelsior no longer offers an exam in either Operations Management, or Business Policy. They only offer the courses now.

TESC, on the other hand, offers an exam AND a course in both subjects.

Here's the link to the exams:

I have purchased one of the recommended books for each of these TECEP exams

Business Policy - Crafting & Executing Strategy (Thomas/Strickland/Gamble)
Operations Management - Operations Management (Stevenson)

I've yet to take them (project taking them around October), but I went ahead and bought the books because they are regular college textbooks and they're VERY EXPENSIVE. I suggest to anyone who will buy these books to get them on eBay or one of the used book sites, and don't hesitate to buy the "international version" of both. These versions are sold abroad, but it's in English and identical to the American version except they're soft cover. I got each one for about $40 including shipping. Just thought I'd put that out there...

Thanks, both of you for the replies. I guess I'll go ahead and schedule the TECEPS for these. I had thought there may be a CLEP that covered these topics, but I think I'm out of luck.

Does anyone know how TECEPs compare with CLEPs in terms of difficulty? Just want to be able to plan an adequate amount of time to study (while finishing ASAP!)

Ana, thanks for the links to the texts...but OMG...they are so expensive. I think I'll see if I can find a copy in the library first!

    Leilani,

I haven't taken any TECEPs yet. But if you go to the link I posted above, and then click on each exam, you can see a description of the exam and a bunch of sample questions.

All TECEPs are pass/fail at Excelsior. But I think the minimum passing score is 60 (not 50).

    Hope that helps!

Sorry I can't give you any more feedback than that,

It's 60 out of 100, which makes it a little more favorable than out of 80 like CLEP and DANTES exams. A little wishful thinking...

Ana, thank you for this information. I think that I will be needing at least one of these down the road. Appreciate knowing what I'll need ahead of time.
