Default Grades at Excelsior for Ungraded?

My CLEP transcript came through yesterday. Several CLEPs that I thought would only be pass/fail were listed as A's. I'm not complaining, but I was very surprised. Anyone else had this experience? Is it because I took the CLEP's last year? I called and asked Excelsior and the woman I spoke with said it was accurate, but really didn't have much of an explanation for the discrepancy.

I know there were some tests that just recently went ungraded. So if these were from a year ago that would explain it. Which tests were they?

Does this mean that they may have changed originally scored letter grades to only pass now too?

    That's what I'm assuming.

If I'm understanding it correctly, it matters not whether or not they change it to pass/fail after the fact. What matters is whether or not it has a grade when you took it (I think). If I'm understanding it correctly, I got an A on Analyzing and Interpreting Literature because my 63 came when they were giving letter grades for it (last year, presumably). Since it appears to be a pass/fail this year (what is currently listed on their site), despite the fact that my wife got a higher score (70) last month, she would only get a lousy "P" on her transcript while I have an A for the lower score.

Or, it could be that they have recently changed the scores and haven't updated their site yet. I.e., 61+ (or whatever) on AAIL is an A no matter when you took it.

Anyway, if you have already enrolled in EC, and you have grades listed on your transcript as A's, you should be golden.

    For 2005-2005
Analyzing and Interpreting Lit was 60, 53, 50
    US History I and II were 59, 54, 50

Both tests are listed as Pass/Fail at 50 in the current Student Guide & Assessment Catalog.

Sirjake, based on your question (that scores which are now pass fail in the catalog are listed with grades) I would have to assume the answer to ShotoJuku's question is that Excelsior will use the method of grading based on when the test was taken and what their cut offs were for grades at that time.

Intro to Psychology is another exam which was recently switched to pass/fail.

    Just FYI,

Oh? I took that one last year too and it was only listed as a pass/fail for me. Was it prior to 2005?
