Default CLEP Analyzing & Interpreting Literature

I need some expert advice. I am trying to prepare for the A&I clep. I have taken the test from the official clep study guide - 60% and I have taken the three tests from Peterson's 55 - 60 - and 62. Do you think that these scores are high enough to pass the clep test or should I get the REA book?

Thanks.

It sounds like you are probably good to go. Many of us took this test cold and passed. I would also study literary terms (alliteration, antogonist, etc) since these do pop up on the exam.

Default Analyzing and Interpreting Literature

Thanks for the feedback! I do appreciate it, I am a little nervous about this test. It has been 20 years since high school and I don't remember alot of this. By the way, when are you taking Drug and Alcohol Abuse? I have taken it and can give you some pointers if you want.

You're in the ballpark and the REA book would serve as insurance.

REA is the Research & Education Association. They publish a lot of exam study guides that include practice exams. In this case, the one in question is:

CLEP Analyzing & Interpreting Literature

I am taking the test this Friday. The two practice exams that are on the CD-ROM were VERY useful for getting me used to the content and pacing of the test.

Question Taking A&I

I only need two credits to finish. I got REA for this subject on yesterday and I plan on taking the test sometime next week. How long would anyone suggest is a good study time, a week or two?

I'm also studying for this exam - taking the Peterson's practice tests, reviewing the ones I got wrong... brushing up on some basic literary terms, and also am hoping the REA book will arrive in the mail today (the insurance!)... My date is late next week, so we'll see.

As far as how long to study...I confess that after reading the 72 pages of text in the front of the REA book and looking up literary devices/terms, all I did was take the practice exams and read the explanations for wrong answers. If I count up the reading time and the time to take the three practice exams, I maybe spent seven and a half hours on this. I got a 78 on the exam.

If you don't have much experience with reading literature, you might want to study more. For me, the hardest thing was the early modern English pieces (what many people think is Old English) where everything is spelled phonetically and the language patterns are archaic. That made me cranky, as it always has. But luckily, I didn't encounter much of that on the version of the real exam that I was given. I actually did better on the exam than on the practice tests.

Best of success to you!
