Greetings all,
I sat for the CLEP Introductory Business Law exam yesterday, April 1, 2008 and am happy to report I passed with a scaled score of 62 with 50 being the minimum passing score. This exam is pretty straight forward with very few surprises. I used the Instacert flashcards and supplemented my study time with the REA book as well. I would say that Instacert is all you really need, but when ever there is an REA book available I use it. A large portion of the exam is being familiar with legal definitions but do not neglect the scenarios' section. They are a bit wordy and quite dry, but you will get a few questions related to these sections so you will have to study these as well. The good news is there were no questions regarding the scenario section that covered checking accounts, bearer, and payee instruments ect. ect. This was by far the hardest section for me to grasp and the fact that there were so many example questions really had me worried that this was going to be the majority of the exam. I don't know if there is another exam that covers this section, but the only caveat I can add is read all of the answers so you will understand exactly what they are saying. This isn't always clear on the first reading, at least to me it wasn't. The contracts sections are covered extensively so spend a little extra time on that section. Some things to know: Know the definition of forbearance Know the definition of assignee Know the definition of contract Know the definition of quasi contract Know the definition of consideration Know the definition of express Know the definition of implied Know the definition of unilateral Know the definition of bilateral Know what the 5th amendment covers Know what the 14th amendment covers Know the definition of capacity Know the definition quid pro quo Know the definition of executory contract Know the definition of Promissory Estoppel Know what FMLA Act is. Know what the EEOC does. Know what the Sherman Act covers Know what the Clayton Act covers Know what insider trading is and is not This should give you an idea of what to expect, but as always you really need to know at least 90% of the Instacert material to be confident during this exam. I was certain I had passed in the high 60's or low 70's, so I was surprised that I only scored a 62. No complaints though, I'm just happy to be done with this exam. Up next, Statistics. I would greatly appreciate any advice regarding this exam, as math is my worst subject. Thanks in advance and good luck to all, Jay CLEPS American Government 62 U.S. History I 58 U.S. History II 64 Intro Psychology 56 Humanities 51 Info Systems & Com App 60 Intro Sociology 73 Principles of Marketing 69 Principles of Management 71 Intro. I am testing on this one this week; should I pass, then I just need to finish out the remainder of my ECO499 Capstone course to graduate; if not, well, then I take BUS-100 mini-course starting on 5/19 ...
