Default Dummies / Idiots guide

Use the idiots guide. It will easily come into focus. They work GREAT for religions too.

All Philosophy is confusing and as a former philosophy major I should know. It helps if you are drunk when you try and read it...I'm just kidding. Maybe.

Half of Philosophy is learning how to read and digest what is presented. Wikipedia is fairly straight forward most of the time.

Just as a help:
Socrates: Belived in questioning and pursuing all available knowledge. Belived people would do what is right as long as they were informed. Those who chose wrong do so out of ignorance. Knowledge = Truth = Virtue = Happiness

Utilitarianism: Actions should create the greatest amount of happiness in the greatest amount of people.

I had the same problem. I thank the member on this board, (you know who you are!) who recommended the idiot's guide. I read through it in one sitting and everything started to fall into place.

Also found on Ipod this podcast which sums up Divine Command theory, Deontology, Ethical egoism, Utilitarianism, etc.etc in 7 minutes!

On Ipod look up K.D. Borcoman and his podcast- Basic Moral Orientations. It was just nice to hear ethical theories in basic language anyone can understand. For ex. Deontology he summed it up as -Do the Right thing,
Ethical Egoism -look out for numero uno....

Don't expect anything in depth. It is only a 7 minute podcast but it may help. It did for me, cementing the ideas after reading the idiot's guide. My own Ethics test is scheduled for next month!

I took the Dantes exam ethics in America on the 17th and it seemed very hard! I am no stranger to ethics or philosophy. Read my postings...I posted some of what I remember. There is no essay or "yes and no" questions, they were all mult choice and very difficult.

Good luck

Another resource I just found with video lectures, slides, etc.etc

Unfortunately I don't know how the ethics videos are. I am at work and unable to watch them until I get home. But I am downloading the power point presentations and reading them during downtime @ work. So far, so good and everything seems direct and to the point!

Here is the link

Lawrence M. Hinman, Lectures on Ethical Theory. Fall 2001.

I just took this test 30 minutes ago and passed with an 80. It's really just mostly reading and common sense. A lot of what was covered in the Specific Exam forums was on there.

Most of the questions dealt with a scenario followed by "Is this morally relevant?", then a question. Just read the question and use your judgment.

I used Wikipedia to brush up on everything listed in the Specific Exam forum and went over the flashcards.
