SAT is supposed to measure how well you'll do in college, generally and is a requirement for admission at many traditional schools. (The subject tests may be a different story - I'm not familiar with them.)

AP are generally considered harder than CLEP. Both are designed to test college-level knowledge, but (generally) the audience for AP is honors high school students, while the audience for CLEP is adult learners. AP covers several subjects CLEP doesn't, including Latin and Physics.

Passing scores on AP exams can result in either credit or placement into a more advanced course (but no credit for the "skipped" course.) A sufficiently high SAT score can also allow a student to skip freshman-level courses in English or Math.

A passing score on CLEP results in credit but is generally not used as a placement test.

Not all universities accept CLEP or AP. Some accept AP but not CLEP. Check your school's catalog for acceptance, credit limitations, cut scores, and other gotchas.
