Default Help me graduate in 2009.

Hello Guys,
This is my first time posting but I have been reading these boards for about three weeks. I am currently attending a four year private college here in NYC. It is quite expensive and I am in my mid 40's. I am already looking at a fairly large loan. My major is Community Health and Human Services. I have decided to come up with a plan to to keep further expense to a minimum. I heard of Fema credits from a another student but I really understood it when I found this site. Thanks!

In the past three weeks I have passed 8 Fema courses. I first though of substituting Fema courses for all my electives. However, I am thinking of going to Graduate school if I can find an employer with tuition reimbursement. I would love to study nursing or get a MSW degree.

So,I have decided to take Clep/Dantes exams that could possibly apply to most of those degrees. I have all ready taken many social science/human service type courses at my current school. Which of the clep / Dantes exams could apply to a nursing degree? I am thinking Biology, Human Growth and development and Here's to your health. My school has asked me to submit a list of the exams I am planning to take before I take them. They will be looking for any overlapping or conflict with courses already taken.

These exams don't beat Fema's free courses but may work better into my plan. However, they sure beat my schools $500. per credit tuition.

They are many schools here that accept Clep,Dantes or Fema Credits.
I have 37 credits to go for my degree. Of that amount 21 must be taken at the school since they are part of the core/requirements for the degree.
Thank you very much for this site.

PS. I will be joining Instantcert very shortly. I will need all the help I can get with passing these exams.

Juliet

Welcome to the party! I would agree that biology, natural sciences, maybe chemistry could supplement your plans to finishing a degree but it depends on the school you are going to attend. Try the following sites to get a list formulated on submit the ones you think you need or make your advisor work for his dollar and submit all the exams (omitting pass courses you have taken). Good Luck!

Default Good luck

Welcome. Make sure that whatever tests you take are pre approved and PUT INTO WRITING! It's not quite a "true" college experience unless you somehow get screwed over by admissions or advisors along the way. I do believe you must get the fema credits converted through some j.c. though. Use the search and type in fema.
Way to charge on! Good luck.

Default Re:Fema credits

Hello,
No, I do not need to have the Fema credits transcribed for the college. They said they will accept a transcript directly from Fema or me. If I deliver the transcript it must be in a sealed envelope.

The registrars office is familiar with the fema courses. They mention that some people paid Fredrick Douglas college? to have them transcribed but that isn't necessary.

I am hoping for the best with them accepting the Clep and Dantes exams. I summited a list of about 6 exams all very different from my courses all ready taken. E.g. Chemistry,Biology,Humanities etc. My school will issue any dantes I am permitted to take. They do not test for clep but said they accept them. I am a little worried I may not be permitted to take the clep since they are not making money from those. The school charges $65 testing Fee for the Dantes. Thats a total of $135. Still beats $505 a credit.

Thanks,
Juliet

The Chemistry and Biology CLEPs are a bloodbath. I would try to avoid these until the end or take the course instead. Many college prefer lab experience with these types of courses. I would lean more towards Astronomy than Chemistry. Good Luck!
