Default Just passed US History 1 was wondering if...

Should I go ahead and take Civil War and Reconstruction? I read the spark notes and listend to a few videos covering those areas. Just worried as its an upper level test and those seem to be very difficult.

First of all let me say congratulations on passing US History I, and yes I would definitely take Civil War and Reconstruction. The Civil War exam is closely related to both US History I and II, both of which you have taken and passed.
IC along with the sparknotes book prepared me very well for this exam. I don't want to say it was easy, (but it was EASY).

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thank you all for your replies, can anyone suggest any movies that would help with this test? Well besides the basic videos, I mean hollywood movies?

Default Civil war (study material)

Hi, I took Civil War about a year ago and passed w/ an "A". What helped me was...
"Ordeal by fire" - Book. I got the 1981 edition for like a buck off of Amazon. (Hey the war ended in 1865- with the exception of the C.S.Hunley find, nothing new has emerged...from being submerged.

I went to yahoo and typed "civil war timeline" I then pasted it to my wall so it was laid out and I could reference it in relations to what I went over. This was a MAJOR help- and kept everything in place.

If, they have a "dummies" or "idiots" guide read it first as I'd assume that would cover 80+%, layer it with a slightly more advanced book, like "ordeal..." and keep the timeline in the forefront and you should be good to go.

Although not requisite- I went to a civil war re-enactment -and- got some two, VHS/ PBS documentary from Amazon. They helped to initially acclimate but aren't critical. The nice thing about CW is it only lasted a few years and is categorized by major events. Over all the stuff was "sorta" fun to learn. GOOD LUCK! and let me know if I can be of further help.

I would say although US History 1 may "cover" the civil war, HOWEVER the material for US1 will not be nearly enough to pass the CW&R exam; it's a different animal all together. There are several good threads and reviews of the CW&R exam filled with great info and study sources too. GOOD LUCK!
