Default Excelsior IT certification credits?

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an IT certification credit limit at Excelsior that limits the amount of IT credits that can be used for your concentration. I've looked everywhere on thier site and can't find the answer. I even went so far as to call Excelsior admission and was told the best way was to pay the matriulation fee, seems a little extreme.

Fondue - if your asking about Microsoft/Sun/CompTia certs, the answer is YES, EC does accept these credits.

Look in the Student Guide to Credit by Examination to find which ones they accept. All you need is a login account (student or not) to get to the guide. You'll find it very helpful. It lists all exams they will accept.

If/when you register, have all your transcripts from Microsoft etc. sent direct from the certifying body to EC. They won't accept your copy. I got 11 credits from my certs. A bunch of my stuff duplicated (I'm MCSD certified in two languages) and I'm not really sure how they determine it. My advisor (I'm in liberal arts) said that the certifying body (ie. Microsoft) tells them which duplicate which.

But you can at least get an idea without having to pay a fee.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response. I'm just curious if there is a maximum limit allowed for their BS/IT concentrations. I have a total of 14 credits per Excelsior's list.

The reason I'm asking, Charter Oak will only allow 6 IT certification credits to be used for your major/concentration. The others IT cert credits are just free electives. This is going to force me to take a distance learning classes to relearn something already learned. It's not the classes I want to avoid, it's the expenses.

I don't think EC limits the actual number you can receive, it's only limited by which you take and what duplicates. They don't limit number of credits based on testing in general. The advisors research each exam and give you advice based on your past classes/exams. They never "force" you into a class as opposed to a test - even for your major.

Maybe if you compare the exam list to the CIS catalog, you can get a better picture of requirements...

Well, you can also PLA or portfolio out of some classes. I am going to do that shortly at COSC for the two upper level infosec classes they have. I hold a CISSP and a Sec+ which they are basic prep for. I have to demonstrate some knowledge, but it appears to be a slam dunk.
