Question about test scoring

I'm 90% sure on this but wanted to make 100% sure!

If I need to get a score of 50 on the test and there are 80 questions; that means that I would need to get 40 or more right to pass. NOT 50 or more right.

I think most would agree this is correct. But because it's hard to know exactly how the exams are scored, I'd try to get a little more than 40 (50%) correct just to be on the safe side.

It's just a rough guide. In GENERAL, getting about 50% of the questions correct would result in a passing score. But your actual score is SCALED (curved). So for some exams, it might be enough to get 40% of the answers correct, on another it might be necessary to get 60% correct before your scaled score equals a pass.

Because of the unknown variables for each different exam, it is ALWAYS a good idea to aim higher than the rough "50% correct" guideline. But as a general guage of your readiness to take an exam, or to estimate how you might have performed on an actual exam, 50% is a good reference point.

back2school - do a search on scoring, there's been a LOT of dialogue about this.
Scores are scaled - not curved - they are equated based on item difficulty per form and scaled based on national norms. You should aim to answer every question to the best of your ability and not throw any away.
