Ok, I am in the final count down- I needed one class in my concentration (must be 200 level or higher) to close it out. I took a winter semester class locally and earned an A. The course is titled SOC200 Contemporary Social Problems.
TESC entered the prelim info on my transcript as SOC174 On a quick google search, I can find at least 8 other colleges that have the same title and are listed above the 200 level. Why the drop? If I let it go, it falls into an elective - not the end of the world, but not my plan. I had intended to use CLEP biology for my remaining 6 credit elective. Thoughts? Is this something colleges arbitrarily assign numbers to, or is there some rock solid system? I am going to speak with my advisor this afternoon- but I wanted to guage how hard to press. THANKS

Seems to me that if it was listed as 200 when you signed up and paid your tuition, it should say 200 on your transcript. I would want a very good reason why it was dropped down to 174. Was it specifically listed as upper-level?

It was a transfer- so SOC200 was the offering college, SOC174 is what TESC titled it as.

Hi Cookderosa, I had a similar situation with Excelsior where I requested to get UL for a class taken at a 2 year college. Look at this thread so you can check a few tips that can help you: http://www.instantcertonline.com/for...light=argument
My suggestion, after having gone through this, is to weigh in the time that is going to take you to fight your case. I'm sure that you can prevail but the schools make you invest a lot of time into it, and only you know if it's worth it. In my case, I decided to drop it and focus on my next exam. I'm sure, given the answer I got from the EC specialist who evaluated the course, that if I had put the time and effort to get the info they required, I would have prevailed. But again, it all depends on your particular situation. I have the letter I sent to EC to start my process and if you want, I can PM it to you and you adapt it to your needs. I know it was persuasive enough to have the 3 advisors that I dealt with commenting on that fact. Personally, I think that you have a great argument to request a review and fight it. Let us know how it goes. Mateo |

Hell yeah, you should fight! Tooth & nail if required... however, this seems pretty obvious that it's just a mistake in academic evaluation of the class. Do a non-emotional, fully detailed write up and include whatever documentation you can find about ofther schools calling it an upper level class - then send it to Dr. Garry Keel (send to enrolled@tesc.edu and put 'attn dr. keel' in the subject line). Dr. Keel is the head of advising dept. and he's *very* responsive to students who seek his help. If he cannot help, guaranteed, he will get this onto the desk of someone who can.
Good luck - don't let anyone push you!

Mateo, your words are not lost on me. I totally understand, and I will have to decide just how much emotional energy it is worth.

I will not hesitate to contact Dr. Keel. He has helped me in the past, and is on our TESC forum...he is usually happy to help. The advisor who "downgraded" the class is new. I don't know if that matters or not- but I sent her a very polite email asking her to look into it. It may not even require much more than that. We'll see.
