On the other hand, I took the A&IL almost cold, only studying a list of literary devices to refresh my memory. I passed with a 65. I guess different folks have different preferences.

I know that I have been seriously "art deprived" but I think you should go by utilizing the knowledge you already have. I have no current or past knowledge of art, music or literature. I have good reading comprehension so I took the analyzing lit exam. I have spent my life as a "science minded person". When I needed a "filler" test I took Natural Science. Some folks here study FOREVER for that test and I didn't even know I was going to take it until 2 hours before I did it. I did fine. See...to me THAT stuff was common knowledge stuff...not what kind of painter Picasso was. Go with what you know! Its the easiest way.

Now I'm waffling between Humanities and Analyzing Lit! I spent some time last night on both to see which would be "easier" and it's almost the lesser of two evils. Humanities requires a TON of memorization, lit doesn't require as much. I absolutely HAVE to make up my mind today so I can study either one or the other - comit!
But each are definintely better than dreaded accounting. I'm checking with my advisor about the lit test right now to see if it even qualifies for me - it may duplicate some of my earlier stuff.

After Accumulating 84 Dsst And Clep Credits My Experience Would Be To Certainly Go For The Analyzing Lit Exam. It Was One I Did Not Study At All For And Scored A 63. But, Be Careful On The Time Issue As I Ran Out With 12 Questions Left To Go. Good Luck And Go Get 6 Credits!!

Though I haven't take the lit test, my brother has. He hasn't been in a classroom for 25 years. His employer told him if he got a degree he'd get a $10K bump in salary. The University he signed up with (Ellis) told he that he could use five CLEP exams. Any five. He looked through the list, downloaded the guides for the six credit exams, decided Analyzing lit looked passable. He scheduled the exam and got a 69. COLD. If it's your bent it is very doable.
I, on the other hand, went through the example questions and got about 25% of them "right." I HATE subjective things. I wanted to write CLEP a letter arguing why my answers were correct... I took the Law CLEP instead.

libartsmgr,
Since we now know that A&I Lit is an option for you, I would DEFINITELY recommend you try this exam first. It is the ONLY exam I would risk taking cold (I did...and you KNOW I like to study before taking any exam). Other than knowing your basic literary terms (simile, metaphor, etc.), and taking some mock exams, there is really not very much you CAN study to prepare for this exam. You can either do it, or you can't! If you are good at reading and comprehending poetry and passages of prose (old and new), then this exam is the easiest six credit exam available to you. You could literally take it tomorrow and stand a very good chance of passing it (it's pass/fail). If you were good at reading comprehension in school, and enjoy interpreting a challenging passage, you will do great! Go for it!

We'll after a few days of waffling I finally did land on taking Analyzing and Intrepting Literature. (Thanks Ana for the recommendation.) It became a choice of memorization over critical thinking - yeah it was a gamble.
I took the exam this morning and was shocked to see the result - 71! And I really didn't have to work very hard to get it, in terms of study. Appreciate everyone's input! ![]()
