Default Civil War

I took the test yesterday. It was very hard. If I passed , I did just barely...Instantcert was barely adequate in studying for this test...This is not a slam on Instantcert, I think this a great site and will continue to use it...It has been a HUGE help in other tests, but I guess you cannot win them all.

My advice is not to worry about dates so much, but consequenses. WHY such and such happened and what happened because of such and such...

Good luck.

Hi Soldierboy,

Don't panic just yet!

It is very common to feel doubtful after taking a DANTES exam. I think most of us leave the test center questioning whether or not we managed to pass the exam. It's normal!

My advice would be to not try and second guess your performance. Wait until you get your score report. You will likely be pleasantly surprised.

Good luck,
Snazzlefrag

Default Let me know how you did...

I hope you did well... I take this test next week (5/10). I know IC inside and out.... Thanks for the info about the dates. I was wondering which ones I needed to know if not all of them. Keep your fingers crossed.

I felt the same way too after coming out of both the Civil War and USSR DANTES exams and ended up passing with scores high enough to be deemed as "A's" at Excelsior - so don't sweat it out over the 2-3 weeks waiting for your PASSING results!!

Default Took the test today....

Ok, I took the Civil War test today. I would have to agree that it was harder then I gave it credit for. I am wondering if all my "over studying" was enough... Oh well, we'll see.

One question really quick. If by some odd reason, I do fail the test, when you can re-take a DSST test?

Thanks
Scott

I believe the standard six month policy is still in place. But you probably passed, so relax and move on to the next course.

I couldn't remember for sure, so I went on a fact finding tour of getcollegecredit.com and found out that yes, it is 180 days (6 months):

http://www.getcollegecredit.com/pdfs/DSST_CB.pdf

(In the FAQ's near the end.)

Hi All,

I have been preparing for my Civil war exam on Tuesday. The whole Civil War era is very saddening/upsetting to me. It was such a horrible time in American history...

..and what's the deal with McClellan? Why on earth would Lincoln keep re-appointing such an obviously yellow-bellied, lilly-livered, chicken-headed, wuss?

In my mind, the very first time a GENERAL retreats yelling "Run Awaaaay! Run Awaaaaay!" AFTER WINNING a victory, he should be shipped off to run a Hot Dog stand in the heart of Indian Territory.

Eesh!

Alright, my breaks over...back to studying!

Snazzelfrag,

Good luck on your test on Tues. I will be taking Civil War very soon. Can you tell me what you have been studying?

I have the Ken Burns tapes.

Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim,

I am using a mish-mash of resources as I dig deeper into the various battles, generals, key events of the Civil War. I totally love learning about history, so it is fun to read as much as I can for these exams.

Here's a list of some online Civil War resources that I like:

(also follow links or search for more info on the various battles, generals, events etc.)
