I called TESC this morning to ask some basic questions about the Emergency Management program and the practicum. They told me that I would have to already be doing emergency management (fire dept, police, fema) to even be accepted into the program. When I questioned them about volunteer work such as the American Red Cross he told me that I would have to have 500 hours of service and then the practicum could be some of project that the area director would approve that I could run. It seemed like they are trying to keep people out of the program and overwhelming.

I am going to continue my studying and testing out then revisit this again once I get more credits but I hope this information helps someone. I was encouraged that they did talk about volunteering as an option.

    Hi Gary

Yes basically they told me to have all official transcripts and official copies of certificates sent in for evaluation. The most I can get for my EMTB certification is 4 credits. I never got certified as a Paramedic, and I'm not sure if they'll award credit for the class because it was noncredit. I really don't know what's gonna happen. I've applied and I'm just waiting now. We'll see, but I'll let everyone know!

    Hi everyone:
Thanks for all that info!!! Concerning the FEMA credits - is it possible to have TESC accept my raw fema scores, put on a transcript and transfer to another university? I'm actually enrolled at IU but they do not accept the raw scores. I'm thinking that if I enroll at TESC perhaps they can transfer the credits to IU - what do you advise? Thanks a lot!!!

This answer depends on each individual university. You might want to call TESC, find out how they translate the credits, and then call IU and see if they accept FEMA credits from TESC. I'm sure it will need to be researched by IU.

Do you know what it costs to enroll at TESC? I called last week and they told me approx $2000.?? I was appalled at how expensive it was. Do you know if that's the enrollment cost? Thanks much.

You might be better off looking into TESC's Credit Bank. I suggest calling them and inquiring. Here is the application:

    Default TESC and FEMA again

    Ugh,

Ok I know that TESC accepts the FEMA credits...

    1. To be used for the Emergency Management Degree do you have to currently be in Emergency Management?

    2. Can the credits be used towards a business degree at TESC?

    3. I have found where the credit have been broken down into "applied", and "professional" etc. However, how do the credits fit as far as being applied to the categories of "humanities" or "Social Sciences" or "business core"? Can anyone post what courses TESC applied these credit to if you not taking the EM Degree route?

I know this has been asked but I have never seen a FEMA course = TESC course equivalent.

Default Just a thought I am throwing out there..

this thread is very helpful. Thanks to you all!

I am a political science major at TESC. I still have some Area of Study Electives to fill. Do you think I could talk TESC into accepting some of the FEMA ISP credits as PS Area of Study Electives? I could argue that they are part of "Homeland Security Policy".

I might at least give it a try. There are a lot of FEMA courses that deal with how to interact with the federal government.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks all!
    Heath
