Default Just wondering...

Hello again, Just wondering... I took a bunch of college classes way way back - like right out of high school, and of courese at that time I did not want to be in the classroom, so I did not do well. Now I want to do well. Do you think that if I just repeat the ones I need for the degree I want, that would help show a change in attitude? and help me get into the program I want? (only need to repeat about 5). Or should I just work on the other pre-req's and hope the school realizes that I have changed? Hope I made sense...

so you don't want to get a degree through Thomas Edison or one of the other exterior degree programs? hhhmm... well, I would imagine that the program you want to enter requires certain grade standards. I would check to see if your grades meet the minimum requirements and go from there.

If they don't - you still need to find out how many CLEP/DANTE credits the program will accept. There's usually a limit.

Sorry I can't be of more help... maybe someone else can put their 2 cents in...

Default I know your pain....

I too took some courses right out of high school and did horribly during the summer but well during the winter(I just wanted to have fun during the summer). That was 20 years ago and I now want to complete my degree and get into a grad program, but because of my dismall gpa (2.1) I may not get in. There is a special admissions process which I may be able to utilize if I blow away the GRE exam. This is my only shot, but it's a shot worth taking. Check and see if the program you wish to enter has a special admissions process, you may be surprised.

I hope this helps,

So, you have a program in mind and you don't think you'll be accepted because you passed your other classes with low grades?

Well, for starters- you can start college from scratch and simply not use your earlier credits. Unless you want the credit on your new transcript, there is no reason to submit transcripts from that college.
If you are going to be attending the SAME college as before for your pre-reqs, you can either
a) check how long they hold them (my employer is a community college and holds them for 20 years unless you enroll- then they start the 20 year clock again)
b) take the classes again to replace-overwrite- them. A CLEP probably won't overwrite them.

Keep in mind that for 100 and 200 level classes, there are much faster ways for a mid career adult to get down the degree road- especially if you are considering a common liberal arts major (like psychology, English, sciences, etc).
