Default Business Math

I am going for a bs in Management Information Systems, which has a business core, an advisor told me my business math course counted as an elective and I am going to start an algebra course with Penn Foster (as soon as I get my books hopefully in the next couple of days). If someone got their business math course to count please let us know as I would drop algebra so fast you wouldn't believe it. I don't know about non-business degrees. I am still waiting on my offical evaluation though.

Also if you look at page 53 of the business degree book it lists under tests for the mathematics requirement precalc or higher: clep college algebra, clep precalculus, clep calculus. There is also a note that the dantes algebra test doesn't count, nor does the general math clep.

Hi Rich,

Unfortunately, the DSST Business Math exam does not satisfy Excelsior's requirement of College Algebra or above for the BS-Business degree.
The exams that do meet Excelsior's requirement are the CLEP College Algebra and the CLEP Precalculus exams.

Hope that helps.
JoAnne

jec,

I just wanted to double-check with you that the algebra course you are taking is College Algebra and that you have received written approval from Excelsior that it meets the precalculus requirement for your degree. I would assume since you have been in contact with an advisor that this is all squared away, but thought I'd mention it just in case!

Hey BW!

Nope! Unfortunately, the College Math CLEP does not meet the precalculus requirement for the business degree.

However I goofed on my post above! There are actually three CLEP exams that now meet the requirement: CLEP College Algebra, CLEP Precalculus (which is fairly new) and CLEP Calculus.

Aren't you glad you didn't go for a Business degree??

Default Penn Foster courses

Joanne, thank you for enquiring Mapolo told me about a math course with Penn Foster that excelsior would except so the day I enrolled I called the business team and got approval for the course. Here is the email I was sent (and you can be sure I kept it), once my offical eval is complete it will be added to my approved courses. I am currently waiting on the algebra and financial management course work, after that I will take statistics. I am hoping that like another member (I believe basket weaver but could be wrong), my memory sucks today anyway, I will be able to complete the algebra course within 4 weeks. Sorry for the long post.

Hello Judy,

It was nice speaking with you this morning!

I have verified the acceptance and classification of the Penn Foster College courses for which you inquired. The following courses from Penn Foster will apply towards your Excelsior College Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems degree according to the following:

ICS 0134 Practical Algebra (formerly Technical Math I)-fulfillls the Pre-Calculus Math Core Requirement
Mat 160 Business Statistics-completes the Statistics Core Requirement
ICS 0152 Financial Management-fulfills the Financial Management Core Requirement

I hope that you will find this information helpful. I wish you the best with the above courses as you pursue your baccalaureate degree!

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Yes, College Math was enough for me. I did take a lot of math in High School, but back then we were still using our fingers to count on....you remember, don't you?
