Wink Intro to Sociology CLEP information

Hello all,

I just scored a 66 on the Intro to Sociology CLEP. So, I thought I would pass along a few pointers.

You may want to study these topics in addition to the flashcards:

Know a thing or two about Erving Goffman, Cooley, Compte, Durkheim, Mead, and Marx and Weber. (The only names necessary)
Know the difference between the Halo effect and a glass-ceiling (workplace promotion).
Know "assimilation vs. integration"
Know "amalgamation"
Know "dramaturgy"
Know the textbook definition of a "crowd".
Know "cultural pluralism".
Understand socio-economic classification.
Know the current trends regarding marriage vs. white-collar workers.
Know the players that make up "the power elite" and who wrote it.
Know why women have an increased interest in sports since the 70's.

The flashcards really are on-the-mark and you should score well with flashcards and common sense alone.

Have fun.

WELL DONE! I knew you'd do great on that exam. Thanks for the excellent feedback too...every little bit helps. I'll throw a copy of it into the Specific Feedback section.

You're on a roll now...good for you!

Take care,
JoAnne

Congratulations! Great score.

I took Intro to Sociology last week (55) I used IC and another book. I had a question about Daniel Bell. I don’t recall seeing any info about him. I do not remember the question, but the name stuck in my head.
Daniel Bell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My test seemed difficult. I felt like I was not going to pass.

I took this exam yesterday, and scored a 59. I studied IC and the 54 questions in the CLEP Official Study Guide (18th Ed.) 5 questions came straight out the book. I had a lot of the same questions as auminer49r, plus: how to calculate the birth rate, mortality rate, population growth rate, poverty rate, and intragenerational vs intergenerational.

Overall, very doable with IC alone.

Good Luck everyone,
Anne

Well, thank you for the accolades.

Anne has mentioned some additional topics that I forgot about. Thanks for that information, Anne. Also, Daniel Bell does ring a bell. (I'm so funny. HA!!)

And, Kiwi... due to the agreements that Collegeboard made me agree to before I took the test, I'd prefer to be called Billy-Bob. And, for the record, I live in Timbuktu. ...just kidding.

So... let's just say that those topics listed above would be good topics to study because there is a chance that they could appear on any college level Sociology exam at any college. (wink, wink)

auminer49r, Great score!!! It's a shame it shows as a "Pass" only. Did you use IC alone?

I studied IC for 4 hours on the night before the exam, followed by a quick 30-min review of the questions in the book right before the exam -- thanks to the EASIEST Exams List (I love that list)! The concepts were very relatable which helped them 'stick' in a short amount of time. Not so for many of the other exams, I have to study 'til my head hurts, then leave the test center feeling dizzy after taking the exam!

I studied instantcert flashcards for an hour a day for 5 days. I also pulled up some powerpoint slides off of google by typing in "introduction to sociology .ppt"

I try to find student resource slideshows from college textbooks. That way I can embed it into my mind visually. I needed to see pictures of Durkheim, Weber, Marx, etc... It helped me to remember their theories.

Congrats, acs1122, on your easy Pass!!
