I passed my first CLEP today. I took the Principles of Marketing and passed with a 51. I took this test first because I heard it was easy, however, I found it to be so boring that I had a difficult time studying for it, coupled with studying for Cisco CCNA which I also passed and poor planning on my part, taking the exam after working 12 hours and getting 3 hours of sleep, but a pass is a pass for CLEP. I did make it thought all of the IC sections and I took the 3 practice test in the REA 5th edition book.
I’m glad this one is over, now I can start studying for the fun ones! For anyone preparing to take this exam know the following: Pricing Polices and Strategies (Price Elasticity, Psychological pricing) Distribution Systems (channel functions and Behavior) Product Life Cycle Brand Management Product Mix and Concepts Demographics Market Segmentation Organization and Industrial Markets Marketing Ethics |

Congratulations on the pass. I take this tomorrow at 9:00 am, hopefully I get more sleep than you did I am the on-call dba tonight so you never know. I found this extremely boring as well and can't tell if all the night calls are putting me to sleep or the information is. Glad to know I'm not the only one bored by this. Well hopefully I am prepared but I am starting to wonder. and get really nervous about the test.

I thought marketing was quite interesting myself...at least for an exam.

Maybe it is interesting and I have been going through the flash cards for too long, i started studying Sunday so last night and today I keep nodding off. I have found the other business ones interesting though. I probably shouldn't confess I am looking forward to starting economics next week (macro and then micro as that seems to be the consensus on the forum of the best way to do this). I am also looking forward to world religions. 12 hour days at work all week probably isn't helping either. Of course I have the feeling tvelasquez and I are both techies and that might make the difference as well.

I took the Marketing exam on Thursday and scored 71. Studied IC almost exclusively, but it helped to also have experience in this field. Found the exam straightforward with few challenging questions. Finished in 45 minutes.
Found these tips from another forum member very helpful in preparing for the exam: Know what Star, Problem Child, Cash Cow, and Dog are. Know all about the Four P's: Product, Place, Price, Promotion. Know the stages of Buying Behavior. Know the stages of New-product Development. Know the stages of the Product Adoption Process. Know what Vertical and Horizontal Channel Distribution are. Know the Types of Buyers in the Product Diffusion Process. Know Elasticity/Inelasticity of Demand. Know New-task Buying, Straight Rebuy, Modified Rebuy. Know Push Promotion and Pull Promotion. Know the Sherman Antitrust Act. Know the Clayton Act. Know the Federal Trade Commission Act. Know the Robinson-Patman Act.
