    Default DANTES question....

I'm taking my first DANTES test next week. All the others I've done have been CLEPs. My DANTES will be computer-based.

Can those of you who have taken the computer-based version of DANTES give me any idea as to the format? Is it pretty much the same as the CLEP? Any tricky things to watch out for (as in, "don't hit the Section Exit" button too soon on CLEP) or things like that? I'm just a little nervous.

I've done 2 DSSTs on their computer-based format. I love it! There is a time-limit...2 hours. I think the format is quite similar to CLEP...don't exit the exam until you're done. Other than that, to be honest....there's really not much else to tell. I think the wording of the questions & answers can be a bit trickier than CLEPs...don't ask me why. There are 4 answer choices per question compared to 5 choices on CLEPs...so I think that works to the test-takers' advantage should you have to 'guess'. Your chances at guessing correctly increases from 20% to 25%. Umm, that's about it. The formats are very similar. The main thing I like about the DSSTs is that you just have to enter your personal information (name, SS#, CC#, etc.) only once. You get to choose a username & password. Every time you go in for an exam (after your initial exam), you just enter your username & password...then choose your exam, then voila!! You're ready to go. It's great!

Just out of curiosity, can you have your results sent directly to your school too like the CLEP CBT?

Yes, you can have your score sent directly. The test site had to look up Excelsior's code because DANTES doesn't have the drop down like CLEP. I've only taken one so far, so I'm not sure if the school location is saved on your profile or if you need to re-enter it each time.

The school location IS saved in your profile. Also...you can access your profile & change your school code, etc. from any computer. I gladly accept the 2 hour time-limit over the written tests ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

    Thanks for the feedback!

One other question.....I'm not sending my scores anywhere yet, as I haven't enrolled in TESC yet. Do they have a "do not send" option on the DANTES tests? And I assume they keep a transcript that you can request later, like CLEP does?

Not in the 'traditional' sense. If you don't want your transcripts sent to a specific school, then simply leave the SCHOOL CODE field blank.
