Well yesterday I took the College Math CLEP (6hrs). It has been a while, but I am pretty good a Algebra and I used IC and another website Free University Project - CLEP General Exam in Mathematics which I thought was also awesome to help brush up on new material and the stuff I struggle with. The test I tooked was very tough and was not what I expected. It was probably 65% probability, statistics, pre-calc, functions and truth tables... and just a broad mixture of geometry and algebra on the other 35%.. I ended up getting a 41 on the test and needed a 50 to pass... so close yet so far away... not sure what I am going to do to meet that math credit.I saw a lot of threads talking about success stories so wanted to post this one. I just want to hear if anyone else has had the same problem and what they did to improve or if they got their math credit some other way. This was my first CLEP and wished I would have picked a easier subject to start off on the right foot. Any thoughts ![]() |

Well, you have the DSST Fundamentals of College Algebra, and the CLEP College Algebra that cover the basics. I here that the DSST version is easier, though I must confess that I have taken neither. Perhaps others on the forum can provide more information on these exams.
My advice is to chalk it up to experience, and keep pushing forward. Your prior studying need only go to waste if you allow it to. Look at it like this. You've already been studying for the DSST or CLEP version. Better luck next round. |

Sorry to hear of the setback. I too have bombed one and know the feeling. This is one of those tests that Peterson's does an absolutely horrible job prepping you for. The practice test is NOTHING like the actual test. I feel as though IC also goes WAY to in-depth as well. I got a tutor for two weeks, a couple of days a week to get me through it. I was good in math, 20+ years ago, but still managed to pull out a pass. It is doable, but if you're that good at regular Math, you might want to look at the College Algebra test. I imagine you'll find it a bit straighter forward Math verses the word problems. Good Luck, Lee

I took this test after a lot of painful studying, and after postponing it several times. I did pass with a 53. The most helpful recoures I used were the Princeston review "Cracking the Clep" and the college mathematics Comex book. They were both very concise, and helped me learn how to work the problems. ![]()

I used the Comex book too and found it to be a great resource for College Math.
