As others have mentioned there really is not a lot of study material for the technical writing test. I have heard there is a Rudmans Book (red book) however it is dated and not similar in context to the actual test. Personally I would not waste my money on that study aid! I can assure you that most people would be able to go in cold and pass this test.

All I did to study was go through the first 3 flash cards in the English Composition series of flash cards for a grammar review and spent a few minutes looking at a technical writing web site (Online Technical Writing: Online Textbook--Contents ). This website was suggested by someone else in the specific feed back section.

As far as the exam goes about 20% involved looking at a sentence within a paragraph and determining out of the choices which is the best way to re-write it. The rest of the exam was just questions about technical documents like proposals, memorandums, etc. Again, I can’t stress this enough, it is a fairly easy exam if you have any office experience.

One last note before you take this test make sure you know what an abstract is (In my version of the exam there were at least 10 questions on abstracts). Also know about different types of graphs (pie chart, bar graph, table, flow chart, etc).

Definitely don't waste your money on the Rudman's book. I thought it was AWFUL....nothing like the test and yes, very dated.

I have to take Western civ 1 in 3 days and, of course, I'm doing everything I can to be prepared. If I fail this test...*shakes head*
