mjno-I'm in close to the same boat as you, only I know that I passed algebra in HS 30+ years ago, I just don't know how... 
I think the link that hsing sent is our ticket to success. I checked out all of the Algebra pages and they are just what we've been looking for... a clear and consice explanation of the dreaded subject.
