Okay, first you want to multiply the 2/3 to the numbers in parenthesis. 2/3 is part of the left side of the equation, so it only is multiplied by those numbers in the parenthesis. This gives:

7/12 - 8/3x - 5/8 = 3/8

Now, add 7/12 to -5/8, which gives:-8/3x - 1/24 = 3/8
Add +1/24 to both sides, which gives: -8/3x = 5/12
Divide both sides by -8/3: x = -5/32, Answ.
